A whatnow?

I am a geek.

There, I've said it.

I'm glad that's out of the way.

But here's the thing about geekdom... everyone is a geek. Because you can be a geek about anything. Sure, some of us love video games (but really, in an age where there is a video game for everything, who doesn't?), computers, reading, "normal" geekery... but what do you think people who are really into, say, WWE "wrestling" are? Or NASCAR fans? Or fashionistas? I'd argue that they are all geeks, too.
The girl who get excited for the next sample sale? Geek.
The guy who's facebook status' are all about how sad it is that the Edge was forced into retirement? Geek. Posting about all the cool pictures you'll take with your camera? Geeky!
Collecting baby dolls? Geeky [CREEPY!]!
Talking about cars all day? Geeky!!

According to my define: geek search on Google (thaaaaaat's right), a geek is: 1. an unfashionable or socially inept person (yeah, okay, fine.), 2. a person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest or, 3. a carnival performer who does wild or disgusting acts. I put one of those in bold because it's the one I think is important. At the very least, ignore the third one (or don't, and allow this post to mean something totally different).

What I'm trying to say is, we're all geeks (again, ignore the third, or don't, whatever) about something. And that's why we're awesome. It's been said that no one is really normal, which is probably true. All the people I've ever met who are trying to be "normal" are just "boring".

So I'm dedicating this blog to exploring the wide world of geekdom. I'm personally a geek about a lot of things. I use StumbleUpon way too much, I read online comics, go to conventions, drop hundreds of hours into gaming (video and tabletop, because I'm that cool), watch Anime, and I know what people mean when they say that the Cake is a Lie. Because it definitely is.

I also like history, but mostly only how it pertains to fashion. Because I'm also a geek about fashion. I'm working towards starting a fashion consulting business, and have a degree in costume design. I spend way too much money on the Vogue collections bible that comes out four times a year, window shop online and am often overdressed in casualville (Portland, where jeans are okay everywhere!)

Those are my two big ones. But seriously, I can geek out about almost anything.

And I totally will! So join me in my [epic] journey to discover [something, anything, or how to just be a geek]!
